Types of Coverage

There are three types of auto insurance coverage. I ll list and briefly explain what the purpose of each is.
Liability: This coverage of auto insurance protects you from having to pay potentially huge liabilty suits and settlements. If you are at fault in an accident that seriously hurts another driver, you will be held liable and possibly taken to court. Your auto insurance will cover the settlement from that possible suit.
Comprehensive: This pays for your cars replacement value or repairs if it is stolen or damaged in a number of natural disasters. Basically if something happens to your car that is beyond your control, comprehensive will cover it. Be sure to check the specifics on this in your own auto insurance policy for your own saftey.
Collision: If you carry collision on your auto insurance policy you are going to have a higher premium. Some states force you to have collision on a car that is newer than 5 years old. If you get into an accident, whether you re at fault or not, collision will cover the cost of needed repairs. There is a deductable which means you have to pay the first $x (usually $250-$750) and then your insurance covers the rest.
